Taronga Zoo is located 10km north-west of Sydney CBD. The best way to get to the zoo regarding ease and speed is by public transport.

The attraction is 12 minutes from Circular Quay by short bus/train trip or a ferry from the city or the northern bay.

Opening Times

Taronga Zoo is open all year round including Christmas day.

Taronga zoo opening hours are from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm from May through to August.

From September to April, they are open from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm.

On New Year’s Eve, the Taronga Zoo opening times are from 9.30am to 4.00pm.

  • No smoking is allowed on the premises.
  • Feeding your food to animals is prohibited
  • The zoo has two entrances, the main entrance and the lower entrance near the ferry stop. It is wiser to enter from the main and exit through the lower entrance or use the free sky safari gondolas(cable car) to get to the main entrance.
  • It is an outdoor activity, and there is a bit of walk between the exhibits, visiting on a rainy or a sweltering day (remember to bring sunscreen) might be inconvenient.
  • For independent visitors, Taronga Zoo has an interactive iPhone app that guides you to the most popular native and exotic animals.
  • Due to renovation going on for a new facelift, you might come across few disruptions and inconveniences, and it should return to normal by end of 2017.
